We directly offer this service to restaurants, markets and cafeterias in Center City and NorthWest Philly - if you own or manage such an establishment, please contact us with your current food waste volume information and we’ll arrange a free consultation with you.  

If you live in or near NW Philly, contact us for pricing to pickup compostables from events.  Our new site will accept drop-off of home kitchen scraps and compostables from events for a modest fee; we’ll post an update to this website when we’re open for drop-offs.

The Earth Tub

Philly Compost is pleased to announce our partnership with Green Mountain Technologies, maker of the Earth Tub!

Designed specifically for on-site composting of food wastes, the Earth Tub is a fully enclosed composting vessel featuring power mixing, compost aeration, and biofiltration of all process air.  This self-contained unit is ideal for composting at schools, universities, restaurants, hospitals and supermarkets.

If you are interested in learning more about how this system could be used at your location, please contact us and we’ll be happy to visit your site. We are using this system at our processing facility, and look forward to opening up for tours and drop-off services.

Aerated Static Pile MicroBins

We are experimenting with MicroBins, originally designed by O2Compost for composting horse barn manure and bedding.  This system uses forced aeration from a blower on a timer to achieve the desired temperatures for aerobic composting. Each bin is 4’x4’x4’.

There are 5 of these in operation at our site, with 2 more under construction.  Our first harvest of materials showed that the system works for composting food waste mixed with wood chips. 

Our next adventure will be to use this method of aeration with “static piles” on the ground.  Stay tuned!
